It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

As winter approaches, the air gets colder, and days seem drearier, but there is one thing that keeps our spirits up. Yes, that is Christmas. Even during the coldest most depressing time of the year, we know how to make it bright and happy. Colored lights light up the city, along with trees decorated with crazy ornaments of all shapes and sizes. There is music wherever you go, reminding you of Christmas, and of course the anticipation of the day which is soon to come. This is also the time that we remember the Lord more, and we celebrate his birth. (Hopefully.) Because of these things, December, and more importantly, Christmas, is the "most wonderful time of the year".

The leaves have fallen from the trees, exposing them to the cold, sunless sky. The appearance of dead things would normally make people sad, but what do we do? Wrap them up in stringy colored lights, and people are happy. The winter is so bleak and cold, causing everyone to have to wrap up in layers upon layers of clothes. (Like the little brother on 'A Christmas Story'; "I can't put my arms down!!!") But no one minds, it is snowing, and they can see the happy red and green decorations all over, wherever they go. The human race is really easily pleased, especially when it is the time they can complain the most.

If you are in your car, or at work, or shopping, you will hear Christmas music; no doubt about it. There is the happy Santa Clause music and the more calm, religious music. It is the only time of the year that you can actually protect yourselves from the naughty worldly songs, because the only naughty song they play on the radio in December is "I saw Mommy kissing Santa Clause". The music can lift your spirits, and make you smile, unlike the songs they play the other 11 months of the year that just take you back to the world.

I think one of the greatest things about Christmas, though, is little kids. They are so excited for Christmas, shaking boxes they find under the tree and singing songs all the time. Parents are rushing to stores while their kids are still in school, and by daybreak on Christmas morning, all the wrapping from the presents is on the floor or they are yelling and screaming trying to get their family up. The other thing with kids is that you can make any one of them believe in Santa Clause, except for those sissies who think 'their parents' put all those presents there and eat their cookies.

But the greatest thing about Christmas is the celebration of Jesus's birth. Some people believe we should not say, "Merry Christmas" to people while they shop because we are throwing religion at people; but THAT IS WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ALL ABOUT! It is kind of obvious especially since his name is in Christmas. Even those crazies (no offence) who say we should call Christmas break winter break are taking it too far; we have a break to celebrate Christmas, so that is what it is. The majority of people living in the United States are Christian, so why should we take the Lord's name out of his birthday to please other people living here? (I am sorry to anyone who reads this and is offended, I am just stating my thoughts.)
Anyways, that was a bit off the subject. (So back to where I was...) But the greatest thing about Christmas is the celebration of Jesus's birth. It helps us realize that Christmas is not about the presents and the big trees, but it is about service, and giving, and love. That is what Christ's whole life was about, and Christmas reminds us that we should help others, especially the people that are alone on Christmas, and the people that cannot afford to buy their kids lots of presents. It is the time to think about more than just yourself.

I love Christmas, and I plan to make it the best one yet.
