Pediatric Care (which really doesn't have to do with what I say)

I went to the hospital last Tuesday for an activity. After waiting for half an hour, we were able to go up to see some little kids, and we were asked to read a story to them. We were given each a book The Berenstein Bears go to the Doctor, which I thought was kind of cynical. I mean, these kids are in a hospital, and we're going to read a book about a doctor's appointment where nothing bad happens...it's just mean.

We got into one of the rooms, where this little boy was lying with a tube sticking out of his arm. I felt so terrible. He was very uncomfortable when we read about how they got shots, and he started to call for his mommy. Fortunately his father was there to keep him comforted somewhat. The dad just sat there, smiling as we read the book to his child. In the next room, the boy's father was sitting by his bed.

I thought of how terrible it must be to have such a young child stay at a hospital to survive. Their lives must be full of misery and sadness as they watch their child suffer. But then I thought of how much love the childrens' parents had to leave everything and just sit at the bed of their sick child so they wouldn't be alone.

Although they do not have an ideal lifestyle, they have something other families do not have. They know it is important to love their child, and they are very grateful for as much time as they can spend with their family in case something terrible happens. Too many families are torn apart from forgetting to show love and appreciation and being grateful for what they have. These parents remember how grateful they are and give their love unceasingly, and though their children are not old enough to show their appreciation for what they do, they are happy, and they will always know their parents love them.
