this is my essay for last week. I posted it, but something went screwey and it came up twice, and then it said it wasn't there at all, but it showed up on my computer, and then it disappeared when I put up the one about Phantom of the Opera.
So here is this one from last week.

Why Sawyer must die, and will die

As many of you (who know me) know, I am obsessed with the TV show, "Lost". It is the greatest thing since sliced bread, which I believe I have proven recently. Well, after watching the past few episodes, and doing very fan-like things this week, I have decided that Sawyer must die. Sawyer is described as a red-neck, or a jerk. He is a rude, concieted guy, and therefore, he must die.
Throughout the whole series, he has been a jerk. He always makes fun of people, calling them names and giving them crusty looks. It also seems that he always has a scowl on his face. We find out about his past, which makes you feel bad for him, but I just pity him. It's his own fault for being how he is. I don't want to go in depth because its too retarded to write. It seems that he has never really done anything good in his life though.

Also, because of my "Lost" fanness I look for fanfiction to keep me satisfied throughout the week between episodes, so as I was reading a few of them last Saturday, I...was mad at Sawyer. Yes, someone else wrote it, and he's not real. And what they wrote was not real about a non real thing, but I was still really mad at Sawyer, so I decided that he must die and stay out of the way forever and things will begin to turn out the way they should be.

Also, Sawyer will die, because in the season finale this May, he was shot in the shoulder, and in episode 2 this season, he took it out, but the past few episodes, his wound is becoming infected and life threatening. He will die because I know that next episode, someone is going to die, and in the preview for it, Sawyer collapses while walking, (from his wound) and they wonder if they really want to save him because he's such a jerk.

I can't wait to watch the next episode. I am just hoping that he is the one that will die. But that is also because I am too attached to a lot of the other characters, and if they die, I'll be rather put out.

The Phantom of the Opera

After getting the movie, The Phantom of the Opera, for my birthday last May, I have been completely obsessed with it. I love the songs, and I sing them basically all the time. The costumes and different shots enhances its coolness, and the storyline is really cool. With all these, this movie is one of the best movies ever.

Although I don't know if the actors sing their own parts, the singers are very talented singers. Their beautiful voices make the songs memorable and fun to sing. In the movie, they sing very well, but when I listened to the soundtrack of the play, it did not sound as good as the movie I thought. There is also Carlotta, who doesn't sing as good as the others. Her voice is somewhat shocking to the other terrific ones, but the singer has got to be good to sing so horribly.

The movie is very colorful with all its costumes. The colors and what they wear shows the mood of the scene very well. In the song, "Think of Me," Christine, the main female character, is in a very pretty white dress, showing her innocence. But then a few minutes later during "Phantom of the Opera," her dress changes dramatically. Her makeup is heavier, showing that the phantom makes her feel differently. Definitely not innocent.

The play/movie is about an opera house that is haunted by the "Opera Ghost", the phantom. His face is deformed on one side, so he wears a mask to hide his hideousness. When Christine comes to the opera house, he falls in love with her, and trains her to sing beautifully. Throughout the play, he tries to get Christine to love him for who he really is, instead of what he looks like. But his heart is deformed just like his face is, and he is completely obsessed with her. This makes the movie interesting because you wonder what is going to happen with them, and if the phantom will become good or if he will triumph.

Overall, it is an awesome movie. I loved it the first time I saw it, and I have watched it many times after that. I never get tired of it. ^^

Jazz Music

There has been much controversy about which music is the best. Some people like the new pop songs, others like rap for some reason, and others just can't decide. Well, I have decided. The solos, history, and preciseness of jazz makes it the best music ever.

This must have been fate, but a month ago, I found out about this free Jazz concert that was going to take place this past Friday. So I took some friends with me, and as soon as they started playing, I had a smile on my face, and a desire to just keep hearing more. In just about every song, the players would take turns soloing, which they were incredibly good at. I mean, this clarinet player held this really long note while his face slowly turned redder. These people were just amazing. They knew exactly what they wanted to do, but probably most of their solos were improvised, which makes them all the more cooler.

This old man, Bob Bailey, was a guest star in the program, and he was just awesome. This old man with the biggest smile came up on stage and sat next to the piano. The director introduced him, telling that he used to be on the "Dean Martin Show", and he had been playing the piano for a long long time. Mr. Bailey is a good representation of how long jazz has been around and popular. He was probably around when it started. Jazz began in the "roaring 20's" in the United States, becoming American history. Many people liked it, and they would go to clubs and dance around like fools. While listening to these pieces, I closed my eyes, and I could imagine a small bar or club, with people dancing all around. These people did not care about class, or sadness; all they cared about was their fun happy dancing.

As they started their first tune with Mr. Bailey, I was just amazed. This old man knew his way around the piano, and he was awesome. I could tell my mouth was open, gaping at the talent of this guy. If he hit any wrong notes, I sure did not notice. But that goes for all of the band. They were so precise in their work, and never once did they mess up. These people sure had talent, and I was compelled to be like them. Even if they did mess up, no one in the audience noticed because they kept straight faces so we could not sense the embarrassment in their faces. The band also played a few songs Mr. Bailey wrote, which were awesome as well. As I watched the piano, I was sucked in...again... and when he took his finger from one end of the piano and rolled it to the top, making the last note stand out, I smiled widely, jealous of how cool this old man was.

During the whole performance, people would cheer for them, applauding their great talent. I thought they were just terrific and my friends and I just kept clapping. People of all ages were sucked into the music, just as I was. A kid sitting in the front row was leaning forward, looking at them intently, and this old man to the side and a row in front of me kept tapping his leg with both his hands.

Jazz is very addictive, and know you understand why.

"The Princess Bride"

I love this book. This tale of "High Adventure and True Love" is one of the greatest books writen. The story of Westley, the farm boy, and Buttercup, the most beautiful woman in all the land, could make me happy whenever I read it. There are chases, swordfights, revenge, true love, monsters, evil princes, and miracles all tied into one marvelous book. All of these things make this book absolutely terrific.

The book starts out with Buttercup's life on the farm, and when she falls in love with Westley. This part always makes me feel happy when I read it, probably because I am a girl and I like reading those kind of things. But it's just so incredible how much they love each other, but they can still act like jerks to each other. Throughout the book, they always think of each other, and do things that only someone totally in love would do, which I think is awesome.

The author has a humerous way of writing, and it is just so fun to read his writing, that it is very hard to put the book down. The whole sword fight with Westley and Inigo, a man seeking for revenge, on the Cliffs of Insanity is so intense, but so witty, like the rest of the book, that you just smile when you read it. The whole "I am not left handed" thing is just random, and I think, "Okay..." The characters are always doing something, which is why it is a tale of "high adventure."

The rest of the book is just so funny and well writen that you can't help but to like it. Fezzik, Inigo's giant friend, and Inigo battle off monsters to get Westley so that Inigo can get his revenge. they find Westley dead after going to so much trouble, but then take him to Miracle Max, and he is brought back to life. And of all the randomness, when they need a wheelbarrow and a holocaust cloak, they have them, and are able to save Buttercup from the evil Prince Humperdink.

Because of all these things in the book, it makes it so much more enjoyable to read than something like "Pride and Prejudice," where all they do is go to people's houses and get mad at each other. "The Princess Bride" took me hardly any time at all to read because I just could not put it down. That just shows that is it a good book because it usually takes me a long time to read any others. So that must mean that this book is one of the greatest books of all time.

Lost: The greatest television show since forever

It seems that the only shows you can find on tv are mindless, pointless, wastes of time. The majority of tv watching is reality and game shows that have no point whatsoever but to rot our brains for an hour. That is why when Lost came along, I took the advantage of watching it, and now I am completely obsessed. It is by far, the greatest television show in history, in my opinion, and it is very addicting.

Lost is about a very diverse group of people that get stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere after a terrible airplane crash. The characters are interesting, because of their differences, and you begin to wonder why these people are the way they are. Of course in the due course of time, you will find out why in flashbacks of the characters' pasts. Things begin to happen, such as they start hearing this creepy noise in the jungle, which knocks down trees, so you want to keep watching it to satisfy your mind with questions that enter your head.

Another reason why it is so great is that there is actually a storyline, which actually goes throughout the series, instead of a different one every hour. Since it has a plot, which keeps going, the audience wants to see what will happen next, so they are sure to tune in for the next week's episode. There has not been an episode so far that I have missed right when it aired, (except for at the beginning, when my family didn't remember what time it was at.) which shows I really really like it.

Other than the cool characters and the great storyline, there is also the soundtrack. Instead of fake orchestration for many shows, Lost has a real orchestra, with great music. It can really give you a feel for the different scenes. One of the songs for example, is played after one of the main characters dies, and the song makes you feel sad and want to cry. I did. My mom even wrote an email to the conductor asking if there was going to be a Lost soundtrack soon.

Also, I have gotten my whole family addicted to it. I saw a preview for it last summer, and decided I had to watch it, because my favorite actor was going to be in it. After my family watched the first episode, we have all been hooked on it, and every Wednesday night, we'd have a Lost-watching party. I told my brother out of the country about it, and he watched it on TV once, and now, I have got him hooked. He just bought the DVD, and is starting to watch them. (I have had Season 1 on DVD for a while now.) Also, I have shown it to several of my friends, and they are all hooked as well, and want to watch it more. Even my friend's mom, who doesn't watch much tv, has gotten addicted to the show as well.

Other than that, they have a great cinemetographer, who makes it seem very real. There are also some very good shots of the scenery of Oahu, Hawaii, where Season 1 was filmed. They have a great director, and great writers, who always make sure they keep the show interesting. They picked great actors for the parts, and it's not just a mindless waste of time. This is why I love Lost so much, and why I am so crazy for it.
