The point of Olympic Biathlon

Why do they have a sport in the Winter Olympics where you ski and shoot? There is no connection between the two. Skiing and shooting have NOTHING in common!

The Olympic games are made up of a lot of sports that test people's skills and talents testing accuracy, speed, height, distance, and other things. They have some really cool athletes; well of course, that is why they usually win medals... There is figure skating, which I can understand why it is a sport. They run around on the ice twirling and trying not to fall. There is snowboarding, where they fly down the halfpipe, flipping and spinning in the air. There’s also bobsledding, curling, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, etc.

These are all normal sports that we like to watch because of the skills of these amazing athletes from around the world. But putting in the biathlon is crossing the line, causing people to stare at the TV and wonder why they would throw in such a bizarre sport.

Skiing and shooting… I don’t get it. I think anyone that really wanted a medal in that would get out their gun and shoot the other contestants that are a threat to them. I’ll bet not a single one of them has not thought about doing something like that. It just shows how crazy this sport is. Whoever thought of it is trying to deceive people’s minds and make them want to go insane.

Time is up for today… good day, I am off to ski and shoot.

Spiritual Insights of Lost

Usually religion is not shown on TV shows because everybody has different beliefs. But because Lost shows how the different characters believe, it makes the show that much greater.

First, there is Charlie, a former famous rock star in England. He felt that he should leave the band because of his indiscretions and wants to repent. Unfortunately, everything turns around and he begins forming his terrible drug habit. Yes, this sounds really depressing, but it gets better. He is taught that "the only way you'll be able to survive is through struggle." He throws his drugs in the fire so he will not be tempted by them anymore and so he can be free.

Another character, Rose, is a great symbol of belief and religion. She says she knows her husband is not dead and refuses to believe that he is. (hmm...maybe she is right!) She keeps her spirits high, and even tries to help Charlie after a near death experience he is traumatized by. She tells him he needs to ask for help, and that night, he comes over to her and just breaks down, crying, "help me." Kindly, she hugs him and tells him she cannot help him, and she prays to the Lord for him, thanking him for their new friendship.

Mr. Eko is probably the greatest symbol of religion on the island. He had a terrible life in Africa, as a sort of war lord. In his childhood, his brother was forced to kill someone, but Eko stopped him from doing it, and was taken by the evil people instead to be raised as one of them. His brother ended up being a priest, and through some tricky spiffy stuff that takes a while to explain, Eko was made a priest, and he got away from his old life and started new, helping people find salvation.

When Eko finds a small plane that his brother was on, on the island, he burns it in respect. Charlie asks him if he is a priest, and he says yes, and starts reciting the 23rd psalm. "The Lord is my sheperd. I shall not want..." Charlie looks down at the plane and continues along with him, showing that he has not forgotten everything about his religion, and he still wants to be a good person.

Another thing is Eko tells Claire, the single mother of a newborn, that if they are both baptized, they will still be together even if something happens and one of them dies. It was nice to hear that people believed in life after death.

Instant Messenger - lowering our ability to communicate and spell

G2G. LOL. BRB. These are common things said on IM, and to me, seem to be a sign not of our race increasing, but decreasing at a rampant rate every time we 'talk.'

After just a few times of communicating on this device, I was able to understand what these meant. After 2 years of getting on many times a week, I still have problems figuring out what NP and YW mean.

The problem with communicating through the internet is that we seem to never actually be in the company of other human beings. I wonder how through the history of the world - 6000 years (according to some religious beliefs) - people were always able to communicate with each other in person, but now, for the past 6 or so years, we spend most of our time in front of a computer screen. We rely on email for letters from friends and family and instant messenger to talk with as many friends as we can at a time.

That is another thing. Why do people need to have 8 conversations going on at one time? One is plenty in real life, but we all insist on talking to all of our friends that are online. Are we really talking? All I see is, "Hi. Hi! How are you? How was your day? ok. Just ok? yeah. Why?" etc. etc.
The majority of conversations online is silly things like this and they never seem to go deeper. The conversation is ignored minutes at a time partly because they have to type "Guess what I did today?" to seven other people.

Usually when people talk face to face, the conversation is so much more fun to listen to. Talking is so must faster than typing, and you can have more than one person listening. There is emotion and facial expressions, which make that way of communicating so much more fun. Where are the emotions online may I ask? Oh, my bad, emoticons. A little face: :D :( :S ^_^ Wow. I bet the man upstairs is pleased to see our race expanding our horizons.

I conclude this fearing that I will go on way too much longer if I continue. G2G! TTYL! :D

Monk

The obsessive compulsive detective in San Fransisco. I could watch that TV show all day, except for when I am watching Lost. It is the second most awesome show of all and here are the reasons.

Monk is a brilliant detective, and because of his nervous tendencies, he is very good at noticing things regular people like us would never notice. It is very entertaining to see him easily find out things about a criminal because the computer chair was lowered all the way or he used the cord on the blinds to steady his gun. Oh, it is awesome to watch him work, even though it is all fake. Boo.

Also, there have been 3 smaller characters who have also been on Lost. Because of the connection, it makes Monk so much cooler because they get awesome people from the best show to play parts.

Of course the best part of the show is that it is very funny. Randy Disher, a (police) lieutenant, seems to act more like a child each season. "This is the way I stand." "Fine, I'll take Monk!" "It's my pointer, let go." Things like that. He acts so grown up and in control when he probably never will be. Also Monk has great catch phrases, "I could be wrong, but you know, I'm not." Or "(But everyone else has gravy.) How about you have some gravy..." "and?" "That's it."

Yeah, its an awesome show. It's on at 8 pm on Friday on USA.
